In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, working out, and traveling. History The concept of MoreThanGrades was born while Mike was discussing the college application process with his parents. Together, they recognized several shortcomings concerning personal contact and communication between potential students and colleges. Mike realized that colleges tend to miss out on some very important aspects that define an individual's character. He wanted to find a way to highlight the individual, not the faceless applicant, and provide this information to colleges. Mike's mother, a former high school and college professor, is familiar with the way teachers go about writing student recommendation letters. Teachers are often given a short time frame to compose multiple letters ultimately making it very challenging to tailor every letter specifically to each individual student. This results in generic letters with minimal alterations being sent out to colleges without giving a true and/or detailed description of the student and his or her abilities. Wondering if there was a better, faster, and more efficient way to allow teachers to relay recommendation information to colleges, Michael sought to make a change. The difference is MoreThanGrades. Shortly after coming up with the idea for a website to fulfill the aforementioned duties, Michael approached his college roommate, Paul Ratajczyk, about becoming part of the team to launch MoreThanGrades. The two began researching and discovered that students, teachers, and colleges could collectively benefit from this type of service. The rest, as it is said, is history in the making.
